HFV in Operating Theater

High Frequency Jet Ventilation

Low motion

High-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) is the clear choice for protecting injured lungs. Here’s why:

In conventional ventilation: Traditional ventilators deliver a few, larger breaths per minute. This can further damage already stressed lungs by applying strong shearing forces.

In HFJV: Jet delivers very short insufflation at high frequency. These tiny puffs of air (hundreds per minute) help to minimise diaphragmatic and general organ movement, reduces stress and strain on the lungs, and allows them to focus on healing.

Since HFJV uses such small and strongly directed puffs, it achieves proper gas exchange (removing carbon dioxide and delivering oxygen) without needing a large volume of air forced into the lungs. This minimises the risk of further injury, making HFJV a valuable option for situations where lung tissue is delicate.

We are proud to present the Monsoon 4, a state-of-the-art HFJV system that embodies the best of the technological advancement in this field. Created in collaboration with Thora Tech GmbH, a company deeply rooted in innovation and driven by a team of experienced professionals, the Monsoon 4 is the result of over a decade of research and development.

Thora Tech’s experienced team has been providing technical expertise and application support for jet ventilation for 15 years. They continue the long and pioneering legacy of ACUTRONIC Monsoon, which is recognised as a founding pillar of modern jet ventilation for over 4 decades.

Minimal invasive ventilation

Traditional ventilators deliver a few, forceful breaths per minute. This is like blowing up a stressed balloon – it might inflate, but it also risks tearing.

HFJV to the Rescue: This method uses hundreds of tiny puffs of air per minute. Imagine gently topping off a partially inflated balloon with quick bursts. Less stress, more support.

By minimising lung movement, HFJV achieves several key benefits:

  • Reduced Lung Strain: The less forceful inflation allows injured lung tissue to rest and recover.
  • HFJV efficiently removes carbon dioxide and delivers oxygen despite the low motion.

It maintains thoracic stability, which is an invaluable asset in the following areas:

  • Interventional bronchoscopy (diagnosis, EBUS, stents, valves under rigid bronchoscopy)
  • Micro-laryngeal surgery (safe use under laser, supraglottic and infraglottic ventilation)
  • Thoracic surgery (segment resections, braces Resections, single lung ventilation)
  • Calm thorax during ablations, microsurgery, imaging procedures, and radiation
